What Are the Commonly Used Materials for Metal Stamping Parts?

What are the commonly used materials for metal stamping parts? Hardware refers to five metal materials consisting gold, silver, copper, iron and tin. It is widely used in the industry and has an important position.

Red copper, brass, phosphor bronze, stainless steel, iron, aluminum, carbon steel, nickel, and spring steel are commonly used stamping materials, and most of our metal stampings contain these materials.

In addition, some alloys with better plasticity are also a kind of metal stamping material, but this depends on whether the customer requires this material for processing.

Usually, we divide hardware into large and small hardware. Big hardware refers to a steel plate, steel bar, flat iron, universal angle steel, channel iron, I-beam and various types of steel materials, while small hardware mainly refers to construction hardware, white iron sheet, lock nails, iron wire, steel wire mesh, wire scissors, household hardware, various tools, etc.

In terms of the nature and use of hardware, it should be divided into eight categories: steel materials, non-ferrous metal materials, mechanical parts, transmission equipment, auxiliary tools, work tools, construction hardware, and home hardware. There are many kinds of hardware products with different specifications, which play an irreplaceable role in home decoration. Choosing good hardware accessories can make many decorative materials safer and more convenient to use.

Stamping material is an important factor affecting part quality and die life. At present, the materials that can be stamped are not only low carbon steel, but also stainless steel, aluminum and aluminum alloys, copper and copper alloys, etc. Generally, materials with carbon content <0.25% and tensile strength less than 650N/mm are the main materials. For example cold rolled steel SPCC (JIS) or 1010 (SAE).

Stamping performance requirements for metal materials:

It has good mechanical properties and large deformation capacity.

The mechanical properties of metal materials refer to tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, hardness and plastic strain ratio.

Has an ideal metallographic structure

The metallographic structure is the microscopic quality characteristic of the material. Its main sign is the degree of spheroidization of cementite or carbide.

Characteristics and formability of stamping materials:

Yield Strength, Tensile Strength and Yield Ratio

Tensile strength is an essential element for calculating stamping force. The so-called tensile strength is the maximum load value during the actual tensile test divided by the cross-sectional area at the beginning of the test piece. That is: b = PMAX / A (kg/mm2)

When the yield strength and tensile strength are high, the stamping force is large, the forming difficulty is increased, and the life of the mold is reduced. If the yield strength is high, after the stamping is finished, when the stamping part is detached from the die and unloaded, the deformation of the elastic recovery will also be large, which will affect the dimensional accuracy of the stamping part.

In general calculations, the shear stress of the stamping material = 0.8 * tensile strength b

Elongation

The uniform elongation U is the elongation when local necking occurs during uniaxial stretching, that is, when destabilization occurs during stretching. If the elongation of the sheet is large, it is advantageous for all elongation stamping. When the elongation is large, the forming limit of bulging and flanging is also large. Therefore, most high-quality stamped steels have high uniform elongation.

Work hardening value (n):

The extension forming of stainless steel plate requires several processing to achieve the product shape. During the extension processing, the material will be hardened, which is generally called work hardening. The reason for the formation of work hardening is that after the material undergoes plastic deformation, the application of the load force in the same direction will raise its yield point, thereby increasing the necessary deformation resistance to resist the recurrence of plastic deformation. The yield point is the initial point at which permanent deformation occurs beyond the elastic deformation area. It is known from the tensile test that it is the point where the extension behavior is still carried out without increasing the load.
